The building
and construction sectors are being targeted by a new scheme to encourage
the use of IT.
The scheme,
'IT in construction best practice programme', launched by Construction
Minister Beverley Hughes, is designed to demonstrate the benefits of IT
systems and equipment to the construction industry.
Ms Hughes,
commenting on the initiative, said: "Effective use of IT in the construction
sector has proven business benefits. IT can save time and money, improve
links between contractors and sub-contractors and reduce the errors and
misunderstandings which plague the industry, causing delays and driving
up costs."
Part of the
larger 'Construction Best Practice Programme' launched last year, the
current initiative aims to help businesses introduce new systems and manage
them more effectively to get the most from them.
Followed
up with regional seminars, case studies and 'how-to' guides, entry to
the programme will be through registration and interested businesses will
be sent a best-practice information pack with details of how to register
and the self-help tools available.
Beverley
Hughes explained: "Through the 'IT in Construction Best Practice
Programme' we aim to provide what the businesses are seeking, a reliable
source of information and impartial advice to help businesses introducing
IT or considering to do so."
