Norwegian Labour Party leader Thorbjoern Jagland believes
his proposal to introduce free workouts for staff during office hours
could lead to an improved working environment and reduced sick leave.
"Employees need such schemes to help them cope with the problems
of stress and mental and physical strain", the politician said.
Jagland is encouraging politicians, unions and management
to consider the proposal when they meet to discuss a new Working Environment
Act. However, the Confederation of Norwegian Business and Industry's director
for environment and safety, Helge Fredriksen, believes that those employees
who already exercise regularly will accept the offer of a free workout
at work - while those needing it the most may miss out.
