New Year gone, but resolutions shouldn't be forgotten

Yesterday, i-FM reported on new research highlighting the fact that many employers miss the chance to use staff appraisals as an opportunity to motivate. Now, from The Industrial Society comes complementary advice on turning over a new leaf.

It's not too late to make - and keep - resolutions for the New Year. Based on the questioning of 50,000 employees over the past 24 months, The Industrial Society has some suggestions.

The top five resolutions people would like to see their bosses keep are these:

  • I must consult my staff so that I am in touch with their views
  • I must start being a part of the team
  • I must value my staff's efforts
  • I must make sure employees have the chance to get ahead
  • I must give a clear sense of direction.

Notes survey analyst David Long: "Workers want a boss who will help them to use their skills and abilities to succeed and who will also liberate their innate talents and energies. The next century's most dynamic organisations will be led by bosses with these values."
