AirNewco, a airline-led B2B initiative, and MyAircraft, a B2B exchange
fronted by aerospace manufacturers, are to combine their existing efforts
into a new venture that aims to cut costs for both buyers and sellers
in the $500bn aviation industry.
The deal will bring together both buyers and sellers as joint owners of
a neutral, global e-marketplace. The exchange, which will be open to all
industry participants, will use the internet to offer buyers the ability
to link with sellers in five key operational areas: maintenance and engineering,
fuel and fuel services, catering and cabin services, airport support services,
and general procurement.
The new venture, to be named later this year, will build upon the efforts
of AirNewco and MyAircraft to provide the aviation industry with an end-to-end
e-business solution comprising e-procurement, supply chain management
and technical information services. Global e-business solutions provider
i2 Technologies will be joined by B2B e-commerce platform provider Ariba,
Inc. in providing the new exchanges core e-business platform and
related solutions.
AirNewco includes Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Continental
Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Iberia Airlines, SAirGroup, United Air Lines
and United Parcel Service.
MyAircraft is a joint venture involving United Technologies Corp., Honeywell
International Inc., the BFGoodrich Co. and i2. MyAircraft has been focused
on developing an e-marketplace for aerospace aftermarket products and
services in the air transport, business, regional and military aviation
businesses.
The 13 individual members of AirNewco and MyAircraft will share the ownership
of the venture. The deal is subject to the completion of definitive agreements.
Additional terms are not being disclosed.
