ISO 9000, now 20 years old, is set to be re-launched with
a series of improvements designed to make the standards clearer and more
accessible.
The revitalised package will, says the BSI, have customer satisfaction
as its centrepiece. It aims to involve top company management, as well
as everyone else in the organisation, encouraging the pursuit of common
goals. It will also emphasise opportunities to achieve real business benefits
from quality systems.
Though carrying forward much of whats in the current standard, a
change of focus extends this to view organisations as a series of interacting
processes the processes that produce the work which the customer
or client buys. These principles lie at the heart of any viable business,
says the BSI, and are therefore reflected in the approach to quality.
The BSI has produced a CD that contains explanations and typical processes
to follow in moving from the old ISO 9000 to the new, as well as examples
and case studies. Included is a section giving the benefits of integrating
a number of different management systems into one system.
The organisation is also running a programme of free seminars throughout
the UK. Information is available from the BSI on 020 8996 7032 or info@bsi-global.com
