Support Facilities Manager's Death Valley challenge!

Jim Hicks, Facilities Manager at the College of Occupational Therapists in London is attempting to run 125 miles across Death Valley, California, this summer, to raise £30,000 for breast cancer research. You are invited to support his bid!

The five-day ordeal, from 1 to 5 June involves running uphill from around 100 metres below sea level to over 1150 metres above. Dave Prowse, fitness expert (and the original Darth Vader from Star Wars) is acting as Jim's personal coach.

Death Valley is the hottest place on Earth and the logistics of maximising the chances of success are complex and expensive, including extreme-conditions training, a support team and specially equipped vehicle. Jim's bid is sponsored by Nova building services who have contributed a £4500 subsidy to ensure that Jim can successfully begin his bid.

Nova's Managing Director, Carl Boorer, commented: "We have known and worked with Jim for some time. When he told us of his intention we felt it was vital for his effort to gain credibility. By enabling him to tell the world 'this venture will happen' makes his attempt realistic to potential supporters. Simultaneously, we removed the logistical worry of getting there and back from Jim's shoulders. It was the least that we could do and we strongly encourage others to support him."
