Two consortia shortlisted for £230m hospital PFI

Skanska Innisfree and The Hospital Company have been shortlisted for the £230m PFI to build Walsgrave Hospital’s new facilities in Coventry. The two NHS Trusts, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) and Coventry Healthcare, selected the two consortia, leaving Bovis Lend Lease led Catalyst the unsuccessful bidder.

Announcing the list, UHCW chief executive David Loughton, said "We have carried out a very detailed evaluation as fairly, professionally and objectively as we possibly could, and it was in the end a unanimous decision of the Project Board to go to the next stage with The Hospital Company and Skanska Innisfree.

A preferred bidder will be selected in October this year and the new facilities should be completed by 2006.

Project director Peter Marsh commented: "As we approach the end of the next stage in the autumn, we will re-assess the position and agree with bidders a realistic and deliverable target date for contract signature; however, at the moment, the approved plan date for signature remains mid July 2002."
