Morrison Government Services has signed a £325m ten
year FM contract with North Lanarkshire District Council. A new company
has been formed to carry out the work, Morrison Property Care, in which
North Lanarkshire Council has a 33% stake.
The contract, which starts at the end of this month, will include the
maintenance of 50,000 homes and schools, town halls, libraries and other
public buildings. The company will employ 700 operatives and staff who
will transfer from North Lanarkshire Council under a PPP.
Chief executive Gordon Morrison said: This is our fist major contract
since our amalgamation with Anglian Water and is a fine example of the
strength and diversity I am confident we will bring to the new company.
Council leader Jim McCabe also commented: I would like to pay tribute
to the sterling work done by many officers and members of the Council.
Their hard work has turned round, what at one time seemed a hopeless situation,
into a unique and groundbreaking partnership that will provide best value
for the people of North Lanarkshire as well as providing an excellent
template which could be followed by other authorities.
