FM and the net seminar

Will the internet have a major impact on facilities management? Much of the running in this debate has been made by software vendors. Now an independent group has put together a seminar to address the issues from an FM perspective.

The one day event, www.fm – the future, to be held at London’s Café Royal on Thursday 1st March, features a line-up of experts with practical experience of delivering property and facilities services. Speakers include Lionel Prodgers, MD of ARK e-management; Phillip Russell, MD of Servus Facilities Management; Tim Caiger, Vice president of CRE and procurement, EMEA for Oracle Corporation; and Howard Bibby, MD of Arlington Business Services.

According to the organisers, for all that has been written and talked about e-commerce, many people in facilities management have so far not yet fully got to grips with what it means for them. Speaker Bernard Williams says: “e-fm may not change everyone's lives, but not being prepared to change, or even to consider the possibility, will surely deny the opportunity to have a long-term future in the facilities business.”

As well as looking at the potential of the internet for FM generally, the seminar will examine the structure of the FM service industry and its readiness for e-business; the current and future capabilities of e-commerce; capital project management using the internet and global benchmarking.
