The University of York has signed an agreement with Jarvis
University Partnerships Programme (UPP) for the development of 738 new
post-graduate study bedrooms. Total development cost will be around £21m
with a whole life value of some £70m at current prices, including
approximately £17m of facilities management and life cycle maintenance
costs.
The first phase of development will provide 258 rooms at Halifax Court
and 288 rooms at Wentworth College, for completion in September 2001.
The remaining 192 rooms will be completed in the second phase, in September
2002, also at Wentworth College.
Under the proposed arrangement, Jarvis UPP will design, build and operate
the accommodation for a thirty year period and the University will grant
a thirty year leasehold interest in the sites. Funding of around £21m
will be provided by Jarvis and its funding partners, Barclays Bank and
Barclays UK Infrastructure Fund.
Dr Andrew Macdonald, Director of Facilities at the University of York
said: The offering from Jarvis UPP will allow us to provide high
quality, state-of-the-art accommodation for our students and to do so
at no cost to the University.
