Construction and property degree welcomed by industry

The University of Central England (UCE) is to develop the first prototype foundation degree in construction and property following an industry workshop with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the Construction Confederation (CC).

The workshop identified the core elements of the new degree and was part of CITB’s strategy to attract and develop suitably skilled and qualified technical, managerial and professional people.

Training officer at Tilbury Douglas Construction, Michael Moore, said: We look forward to this programme bringing construction, academia and the industry closer together to help attract and develop quality people with the essential technical and managerial skills we need.”

Jim Low, Dean of UCE’s faculty of the built environment continued: “This prototype foundation degree in construction will be a great step towards more people entering higher education. I look forward to working with CITB, CIC and CC to develop an existing new higher education programme which will attract and suit a diversity of students and construction employees.”

The two-year foundation course is designed to provide a route to an honours degree.
