Telecity
help Scottish Internet Exchange on-line
Telecity,
the facilities management company which specialises in services to Internet
suppliers, has been appointed by ScotiX to manage its co-location facility
attached to the exchange.
Based in
Manchester, Telecity was founded in April 1998 by its managing director
Dr Mike Kelly and is solely focused on providing specialised support for
the equipment and telecommunications infrastructure used by ISPs and Internet
applications providers.
The ScotiX
appointment follows a comprehensive tendering process which attracted
seven bidders from around the world, resulting in three firm bids. Telecity,
which already manages similar facilities in Manchester and London, will
set up a facility for ScotiX and co-locating companies in South Gyle,
Edinburgh.
Dr Mike Kelly said of the contract: "Telecity is very pleased to
have been selected to develop this critical piece of national infrastructure
and looks forward to working with local agencies to turn Scotland into
a world-class E-commerce centre".
