The BBC has chosen AMEC as its building services, project management
and cost consultancy provider. This is part of the BBCs new framework
agreement, which covers services the broadcaster is unable to deliver
in-house. Furthermore, the agreement is used for large projects with fees
exceeding the EU procurement threshold.
This announcement comes at a time when five shortlisted consortia have
until the end of this month to supply their proposals for the BBCs
property partnership initiative (see News
story).
The deal is the latest of many long term agreements AMEC has with organisations
such as BAA, the Ministry of Defence and Railtrack, which AMEC claims
are producing significant benefits for all involved.
The services and engineering solutions provider AMEC recently merged with
AGRA Inc, a North American engineering and environmental services company.
AMEC also owns 41.6% of the international electrical engineering, infrastructure
and construction services company SPIES S.A and in 2002 it has the option
to buy the balance of SPIES. AMEC and SPIE employ 50,000 people in 40
countries and have an annual revenue of over $8bn.
