Salvesen wins £60m logistics contract with GM

The European logistics company Christian Salvesen, specialising in managing the delivery of outsourced supplies for blue-chip customers, has won a UK parts logistics contract worth £60m from General Motors (GM). The 4-year deal is Salvesen's largest single industrial contract.

Salvesen has been GM’s contracted UK carrier for ex-works automotive parts since 1992 and has also handled the delivery of GM aftermarket parts for the past three years.

The contract involves the 'just in time' collection of production parts from 360 UK suppliers for delivery to GM's plants at Luton, Ellesmere Port and Charlton, Beds, and the consolidation of parts to the corporation's nine factories across Europe.

Dave Betts, Managing Director of Salvesen’s UK Industrial Division, said: "The renewal of this coveted contract, in the face of strong competition, speaks volumes for our ability to deliver. The deal underlines the trust major companies have in our high standards of service and in our ability to achieve time-critical deliveries to meet production schedules."

Salvesen operates primarily in the food, consumer and industrial sectors for companies such as Marks & Spencer, Unilever, Ford and Mercedes.
