Croydon Council has granted planning consent for the development
by Minerva plc of 'Park Place', a major regeneration project totalling
over 122,000 sq. m. As part of the project, Nestles Head Office
will be redeveloped and refurbished to provide 15,000 sq. m. of office
space.
The new development, which will be known as "Park Place", comprises
a three level shopping centre (including 110 new shops), a new public
square with cafes and restaurants and a new modern car park. The town
centre will also get a new bus interchange, in order to promote the use
of public transport, and a larger town centre tram stop. The pedestrianised
public open space will also be improved.
Andrew Rosenfeld, Chief Executive of Minerva plc, commented: "Croydon
is one of the most important retail locations in the south of England
with a large catchment population that requires a full-range of quality
shopping. We are delighted that our proposals have been accepted by important
businesses such as Nestle and that the Council have now endorsed this.
Our development represents one of the UK's largest town centre regeneration
projects and we look forward to completing preliminary work and starting
on site as soon as possible."
