Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has acquired the IT services subsidiary
of British Nuclear Fuels, called IT Services (ITS), under a deal which
includes a five year contract to provide full IT support for BNFL. ITS
has revenues of £40m and employs 500 staff at seven locations in
the UK. Other clients are in the utilities, healthcare and public sectors.
The acquisition is beneficial for both companies: CSC is currently developing
its presence in the European utilities industry, and BNFL is considering
major global expansion plans supported by a professionally managed IT
infrastructure.
ITS will continue to trade under its current identity with the existing
senior management in place for the foreseeable future. CSC has retained
the ITS staff and has taken over ownership of the advanced equipment and
facilities at ITS locations in the UK. This provides CSC with a number
of new locations in the North of England and strengthens its ability to
provide national coverage.
ITS Managing Director Ian Howat, comments: "We believe that
this move is right for us and our customers because it provides us with
long-term stability and access to a wider pool of resources through which
we can develop new services and add even more value. This development
also presents a tremendous opportunity to our highly dedicated and professional
workforce to develop their skills. "
