The inaugural project for the BIFM Building Services Special
Interest Group (BS SIG see News story)
is to be the development of guidance information on fire alarm systems.
The guidance aims to provide non-technical facilities managers with
a quick reference to key aspects of fire alarm systems, in order to
assist in understanding design and maintenance requirements, system
operations, statutory compliance requirements and other relevant aspects.
The guide will also provide a comprehensive bibliography of technical
information. Contributions from facilities managers, design and maintenance
engineers, manufacturers and any other interested parties are welcomed.
In particular, any information regarding areas in which problems have
been experienced, help is needed, or lessons learned with respect to
fire alarms are invited.
Comments should be sent to the Group's temporary email address, BSSIG@hotmail.com,
by 25 May 2001 or post them on i-FM's
Discussion Forum
The Building Services SIG forms part of the BIFMs programme of
gathering information, sharing knowledge and exchanging best practice.
This project represents the first stage of an ongoing initiative to
provide accessible guidance to technical building services subjects
via the BIFMs website. Subjects identified for future guides include
uninterruptible power supplies and water treatment.
