Stress? Where's the problem, ask employers
In yet another study of workplace stress, the Institute of Occupational
Medicine has found decidedly mixed attitudes amongst employers about their
role in resolving stress issues.
In a review of the policies at un-named Scottish companies, it was found
that some organisations had taken no action, despite having been given
specific recommendations for dealing with identified problems. Others
had acted but failed to achieve any reduction in stress levels.
Says researcher Richard Graveling: "It became evident to us that some
organisations still view stress in the workplace as a weakness and generally
are not committed to tackling it."
Too often, says the Institute, other issues take priority - even though
some, such as coping with organisational change, may underlie the stress
problem.
