Every large firm in the UK now has Internet access, according to the Durlacher Internet Report. The report also found that 65 percent of the UK's biggest firms have intranets, and almost a quarter of firms questioned have begun to use extranets.
Last year, the report found that around 94 percent of large UK companies - those with a turnover of £75m and above -- were connected to the Internet. One year on, the 100 percent figure has finally been achieved, although less then 40 percent of employees have direct access to the Web from their desks.
Durlacher predicts that bandwidth prices will continue to fall over the next 12 months. But it concludes that customers will be more interested in reliability than price.
"Companies for whom Internet access is of mission-critical importance will pay more attention to the service record of the ISPs, the network topology and the service-level guarantees attached to their leased-line prices," the report notes.
The Durlacher Internet Report questioned people who are responsible for Internet deployment in over 500 UK companies with an annual turnover of more then £75m. The companies questioned formed a representative sample of industry sectors.
