Contract
cleaning report
The £2.65bn
contract cleaning market is expected to continue to grow, according to
research by AMA Research.
Continued
outsourcing, improved construction output and higher expectations of hygiene
and cleanliness are reasons, says the UK Contract Cleaning Market Report
1999, for a continued growth over the next 10 years of about 12 to 14%.
The largest
20 contractors account for about 37% of the market, with the leading four
taking a combined share of 25%. The remaining 63% is shared among over
6,000 contractors.
The introduction
of the National Minimum Wage is likely to affect the smaller contractors
more than the larger ones, and a trend away from single to multi service
contracts has further polarised the market.
The report,
copies of which cost £445, also detects a shift towards full time working.
The market for part-time labour is increasingly competitive and round
the clock working at client premises necessitates the use of full-time
workers on day shifts.
